I live in the Bay Area with my 7-year-old son, whose two great loves are opening Pokémon cards and snuggling every stuffed Pikachu he owns (we’ve stopped counting). We started collecting Pokémon TCG cards as a family during a trip to Japan and fell in love with the art — and maybe the chaos.

When we got home, we discovered that the Pokémon world is magical, massive, and wildly confusing. So I did what any Type-A parent would do — I researched, overspent, and learned the hard way which boxes are worth it. Now I’m here to make it easier (and cheaper) for other parents to navigate this hobby without needing a second mortgage or a Pokémon glossary.

I get a few repeat questions, so let me address them here…

Where do I buy my cards? I purchase from Sam’s Club, Costco, Walmart, Target, and Pokémon Center, which are authorized sellers in order to assure a genuine product.

Why are these so hard to find at good prices? Resell value is often 2x the MSRP due to the popularity of these cards with anyone from kiddos who just want to rip to serious collectors.

So how do you find them? I started with a 1-hour call with another Pokémon mom who showed me the ways (shout out to Ash!), added Discords, stock dashboards, communities and memberships. Through a lot of trial, tears, and practice, I learned the tricks of the trade for getting good deals to pass along to other parents.

Can you teach me how to do it? Yes… but honestly you do not want this addiction. Save yourself from this madness and leverage this website. It’s called outsourcing, people.
